Monitoring child, adolescent and family health and well-being
The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) gathers and produces information on the health and well-being of children, adolescents and families. The objective is to produce comparable and timely as well as nationally and regionally representative information on the health and well-being of children, adolescents and families as well as on associated factors and time-related changes.
Central sources of information are the data from health check-ups and national registers.
Child and adolescent overweight and obesity 2020
These pages present information on the prevalence of overweight and obesity as well as on the coverage of height and weight data of 2‒16-year-old children and adolescents living in Finland in 2014‒2020.
The data are based on height and weight measurements taken at health care visits in child health clinics or school health care. The data are recorded into patient information systems from where they are transferred to the Register of Primary Health Care Visits (Avohilmo). Height and weight data from the year 2019 have been complemented with a supplementary data collection directly from patient information systems in case direct data transfer to the Avohilmo register has not been possible.
The interactive map and municipality-specific summaries enable inspection of the prevalence of child and adolescent overweight and obesity as well as of height and weight data coverage according to sex, age group and region.
At the moment, you may examine the data according to wellbeing service counties in the Sotkanet.fi service.
